This philosophy has led Gonzague & Claire to distance themselves from conventional practices, in favour of more sustainable methods of cultivation that respect natural balances. And naturally this led them to cultivate all their vineyards using Organic and Biodynamic farming. What comes from nature must return to it to create a virtuous circle.

Today, they cultivate the largest certified biodynamic area of all the Bordeaux vineyards.

BIO AND BIODYNAMICS

Lurton

NOW, TREES, HEDGES, FLOWERING FALLOWS, CEREALS AND NATURAL GRASSING ARE MIXED WITH THE VINES. IN ADDITION TO LANDSCAPING, THIS ECOSYSTEM ENCOURAGES THE DEVELOPMENT OF BIODIVERSITY, PROVIDES A NATURAL BALANCE FOR THE VINE AND GUARANTEES ITS RESILIENCE.

Cover crops protect the soil from erosion and compaction. By structuring it, they stimulate the life of the soil so that it tends to function independently. The cover crop is also a natural fertiliser, which, when destroyed, returns the nutrients (carbon, nitrogen) to the soil. Soil biodiversity (earthworms, fungi and bacteria) helps the vine to feed itself and to be more resilient to disease.

TREES AND HEDGES STIMULATE BIODIVERSITY BY PROVIDING SHELTER AND FOOD FOR INSECTS, BIRDS, BATS, ETC. THEY ARE A TRUE CARBON STORAGE THANKS TO THEIR DEVELOPED LEAF SURFACE, THEY ALSO HELP TO STORE WATER TO BETTER RELEASE IT DURING DROUGHTS.

THIS SYMBIOSIS BETWEEN THE VINE AND ITS ENVIRONMENT ALLOWS US TO PRODUCE GRAPES WITH MORE COMPLEXITY. THIS RESULTS IN WINES THAT EXPRESS THE TRUE NATURE OF THEIR TERROIR, WITH MUCH MORE BRIGHTNESS AND DEPTH.

CHATEAU DURFORT-VIVENS

The first Grand Cru Classé in Margaux to be certified biodynamic.

CHATEAU FERRIERE

The Médoc branch of biodynamics. It is also the only Grand Cru Classé in Margaux to be certified as biodynamic by both Demeter and Biodyvin.

Among the only three 1855 Crus Classés to be certified biodynamic vine and wine.
