Château La Gurgue

In praise of the beauty of Margaux Margaux Appellation

THE BEAUTY OF THE TERROIRS OF MARGAUX

At the XVIIIth century, Château La Gurgue first belonged to the parish of Margaux, which owned, cultivated and vinified the most beautiful plots of land in the Margaux region. The estate of Château La Gurgue, which is very representative of the beauty of the terroir of Margaux was then sold during the French Revolution. Then followed a struggle between mayors for the municipality of Margaux, with two mayors becoming the successive proprietors of Château La Gurgue, Mister Lanoire and Mister Lavandier.

"THE MARGAUX STYLE"

IN 1978, JACQUES MERLAUT BOUGHT CHÂTEAU LA GURGUE AND ENTRUSTED IT TO HIS ONLY DAUGHTER, BERNADETTE.

She took over a property that had almost been abandoned, renovated the installations, replanted the vineyard and brought this great wine back to life, vintage after vintage. Ten years later, it was consecration: 50 great tasters gathered by "L'Essai sur le style de Margaux" selected it as one of the ten most typical wines of Margaux, alongside eight Grands Crus Classés of the appellation. After Bernadette's death, Claire took over from her mother, further refining the style of La Gurgue wine: seductive, true and sincere.

Lurton

A HIGHLY COVETED ESTATE, VINIFIED BY A GRAND CRU CLASSÉ

The history of the La Gurgue vineyard is above all a history of independence. The plots of land surrounding it are those of the greatest growths of the Margaux appellation. Château Margaux itself coveted the vines of Château La Gurgue for a long time.

This extremely high-quality vineyard is therefore following its own destiny by resisting the desire of its prestigious neighbours to expand.
